DALLAS – There’s no reason to trust Obamacare’s creators who now wish to dump Americans into a new government-run, single-payer health care system deceptively called “Medicare for All,” says a damning new publication from the Institute for Policy Innovation.

In “What Medicare for All Supporters Won’t Tell You,” IPI resident scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews warns the term “Medicare for All” (M4A), embraced by nearly all 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls, is a marketing ploy exploiting Medicare’s popularity. But in reality M4A would eliminate the program.

“Medicare for All is not based on the Medicare program,” said Matthews. “Medicare as it exists today would be eliminated and replaced by a completely different, government-run system.”

The publication illuminates the many serious problems with M4A, including how:

  • Those who like their employer-provided health coverage won’t be able to keep it;
  • The government will decide which treatments patients can have;
  • Politicians and bureaucrats arbitrarily impose budget and price controls to cut costs;
  • Care will be rationed; and
  • Opting out through private insurance will not be allowed.

“Almost nothing M4A’s proponents claim is true,” writes Matthews. “Medicare for All will not save money, nor be more efficient, nor provide better care, nor reduce waste. Just look at the Veterans Administration, which the government has run for nearly 100 years.”

“If Obamacare had worked the way Democrats promised, there would be little need for Medicare for All,” he said. “Democrats are now shamelessly asking voters to trust them to fix all the health care problems that they said Obamacare would correct but didn’t.”
